Cartmarble (/cartmarble/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Gumada Provence of the Kingdom of Hobben.
The name Cartmarble is derived from the Sylvin language, as Cartmarble was founded by Snoctîb Corrie, who was culturaly Sylvin.
Climate
Cartmarble has a yearly average temperature of 26°C (78°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 31°C (87°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 22°C (71°F). Cartmarble receives an average of 278 cm/y (109 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Cartmarble covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 3400 m (11154 ft) above sea level.
Overview
Cartmarble was founded durring the late 14th century in winter of the year 1254, by Snoctîb Corrie. The establishment of Cartmarble suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.
Cartmarble was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Cartmarble is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.
Cartmarble is buildings folow an organic layout of restrictive flagstone streets whihch gives the town a shape simmilar to a tree, if one views its streets from above. The town has a defencive wall made from large clay bricks. The wall is constructed to the exact specifications of millitary fortifications, but the nature of its clay brick construction leaves it vulnerable to even outdated siege equipment. That said, the town is well defended against anything short of an army. The town's brittle defences are visibly old, but also obviously well maintained. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with routine mantance of the town's defences.
A look around Cartmarble gives you a feeling of distrust and paranoia. Also greed. The locals seem to be very much into scholastic pursuits, based on the hushed, murmured conversations you hear at least. Everyone in Cartmarble acts like they have discovered something wondrous, and are worried they will endure some horrible fate so another can take what they’ve discovered for themselves.
Civic Infrastructure
Cartmarble has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Cartmarble.
Cartmarble has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.
Cartmarble has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.
Cartmarble has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Cartmarble's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.
Cartmarble has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.
Cartmarble has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.
Cultural Notes
Cartmarble's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is which made use of the classical orders and mathematically precise ratios of height and width combined with a desire for symmetry, proportion, and harmony. It used columns, pediments, arches and domes are imaginatively in buildings of all types. Decorative features were seen as largely unnecessary as the sheer beauty of the structure itself was often close to art. However, many buildings with large ceiling spaces had their ceilings decorated with elaborate paintings, simply because the large flat spaces could feel wasted.
In Cartmarble there is always just enough rain to be annoying.
The Thanatos Fey near Cartmarble are known to be quite timid.
Cartmarble's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves sex to channel Enchantment energies of tier 1 via throat chanting.
